Single-Use Plastics Policy​


Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to reduce the environmental impact of our operations by minimising the use of single-use plastics. This policy aims to promote sustainable practices among staff, customers and stakeholders, thereby contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.


Scope
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, customers, and suppliers associated with Bramley Baths, covering all operations, events and activities conducted by the organisation.


Policy Statement
Bramley Baths is committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. As part of this commitment, we will significantly reduce or eliminate the use of single-use plastics in our operations wherever feasible.


Implementation
General Guidelines

  •  Water Bottles: Eliminate the use of single-use plastic water bottles. Encourage the use of reusable water bottles by providing water fountains and bottle refill stations.

  • Cutlery and Dishware: Substitute plastic cutlery, plates, and cups with compostable or reusable options in all areas of the organization.

  • Bags: Use reusable or paper bags instead of plastic bags for any merchandise or items provided by the organization.


Office and Administrative Areas

  • Avoid single-use plastic packaging for office supplies and promotional materials.

  • Use bulk dispensers for office supplies such as pens and markers instead of individually wrapped items.

  • Encourage employees to use reusable containers for food and beverages.

Events and Catering

  • Prohibit the use of single-use plastic items such as utensils, plates, cups, and stirrers at all events and catering services. Provide compostable or reusable alternatives.

  • Work with caterers to ensure compliance with this policy.

Procurement

  • Require suppliers to minimise plastic packaging and provide products in reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging.

  • Preference will be given to suppliers who demonstrate a commitment to reducing single-use plastics.

Customer and Visitor Engagement

  • Display educational materials throughout the organisation to raise awareness about the impact of single-use plastics and the importance of using reusable alternatives.

  • Offer incentives, such as discounts or rewards, for customers and visitors who bring and use their own reusable items.

  • Host workshops and events to educate the community on sustainability practices and the benefits of reducing single-use plastic usage.


Staff Training and Responsibilities

  • Train all staff on the importance of reducing single-use plastics and provide guidelines on alternative products and practices.

  • Ensure all departments comply with this policy and integrate its principles into their daily operations.

Monitoring and Compliance

  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with this policy and identify areas for improvement.

  • Provide a suggestion box or digital platform for feedback from employees, customers and visitors on how to further reduce single-use plastic usage.

  • Review and update this policy annually to incorporate new sustainable practices and technologies.

Exceptions
In certain circumstances where the use of single-use plastics is unavoidable due to health, safety, or operational requirements, exceptions may be granted. These exceptions must be approved by the organisation’s management and documented accordingly.


Effective Date
This policy is effective as of 17th June 2024. All staff, customers, visitors, and vendors are expected to comply with this policy from this date forward.
